Awendo Green Stadium gets clean bill of health

Sports Stadia Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) has cleared Sony's Awendo Green Stadium to host the rescheduled match between Sony and AFC Leopards on Thursday.

SSSC members led by chairman Laban Jobita, who toured the Awendo Stadium on Saturday, cleared the facility to host the rescheduled match after Sony improved security in the stadium.

"Sony management have reinforced the inner perimeter wall, they have also erected new standard goal posts and the stadium can now host any high risk match," Jobita told FeverPitch.

GMT Ottieno, a member of SSSC, said: "Awendo Stadium is better than some of the stadia that have hosted AFC and Gor Mahia, Sony have improved the safety standards, they have a good perimeter wall and three emergency gates."

The SSSC team comprises Jobita, Ottieno, Robert Nyakundi, Tom Alila (Nyanza FKF NEC member), Phillip Owuoti (FKF Nyanza West chairman), Charles Chacha (FKF secretary Nyanza West) and Sony FC secretary Bob Akoko.

Alila said many teams fear playing Sony at home because Sony has a good home record.

"Sony normally wins all their home matches, but in sports there are always three results, you either win, lose or draw, the best results are those that are achieved on the field of play not through boardroom decisions," said Alila

Alila added: "I'm pleading with all sports loving Kenyan's to restrain themselves from causing trouble and accept whichever result that their teams get. Referee's should make right decisions that will make fans trust their decisions."

Sony FC secretary Akoko asked their fans to turn up in large numbers on Thursday and support the team against Leopards.

Elsewhere, Muhoroni Youth FC have asked Independent Discipline and Complaints Committee to award them three points from their match against AFC Leopards where their bus was destroyed and players injured by Leopards' fans. The match ended in 1-1 draw.

Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala said they used Sh500,000 to repair their bus and treat their players.

"The host team should have provided security yet they let their fans damage our bus and injure our players," Adagala said.
