Tusker and Kenyan full-back Vincent Kwarula gives back to society

Giving back to the society has always been a hallmark of most retired sports men and women as they seek to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.

It is in this spirit that former Tusker and Kenyan full-back Vincent Kwarula set up a foundation to give out kits and other sports goodies to less-advantaged teams.

The former international is currently in the country and he took his time to give out sports kits and balls as well as one-year scholarship to 20 school-going children during an exhibition match at Kawangware yesterday.

During the the exhibition match, Kibiro Primary School beat Rens 1-0 and took home the main trophy.

Kwarula held a soccer clinic at Kawangware on Friday and supported a number of teams including Kabiro and Rens Primary schools, Green Buffaloes, Red Stars, Young Peles, Gladiators, Waithaka Youth, Gachui Black Boots, True Gunners, Lenana Race, Ujamaa, Green Santos, Mainstream Queens and Chelsea queens.

Kwarula said it is his time to give back to the society considering his humble beginning.

"My aim of doing all this is because I want to expose and help nurture the hidden talent that would otherwise get wasted," he said.

Through the support of well wishers in USA, Kwarula is involved in several community development projects that include sinking of boreholes for the public in his rural village in Kakamega and paying school fees for hundreds of youth in the community.

Kwarula played for Kenya Breweries, Nyayo Stars and Harambee Stars for over eight years. He moved to USA in 1997 on a Global Soccer Network Scholarship and stays there to date.
