UoN Dynamites blow their way to top of NBA league

University of Nairobi Dynamites (UoN) are perched on the apex of the Nairobi Basketball Association Women's League this week with 34 points.

The students beat Deaf Queens with a resounding 75-16 victory in a clash held at Upper Hill School on Sunday.

The winners scored 23 points via Eve Chebet as Bertha Kisiera and Nduta Kiiru contributed 18 and 16 points. Dynamites have played 17 matches, winning 14 and losing 3.

Footprints, who are a point shy of the leaders, have a match in hand.

The second last team on the log, Kayole Queens, dismissed Masaku Sparks 42-37 in their struggle to evade relegation. Victoria Nasambu hit 11 points for the winners while Fridah Gumbo registered 19 points for the losers.

Kenya Methodist University got the better of Tazmanians, hitting them 68-50 in the race for the men’s NBA Eastern Conference glory. Gabriel Awuol sunk 33 points for the winners as Washington Mwangi contributed 15 for the losers.

Jeff Muthui of Allstars bagged 16 and Alvin Ali notched 11 in a 57-51 triumph over Lycans who had Wesley Ochako (14) netting for the losers.

Saints marched past Eastern Conference leaders Daystar University with a 55-42 win in a tough clash.

Bramwel Shiteo nailed 13 points and Fredrick Otieno shot 12 for Saints whose player, Leonard Opiyo, threw down a thunderous rim-roasting slam that not only shook the defensive player but also threatened to bring down the whole backboard. Davidson Oluoch had 14 for the students.

Daystar University had earlier roared past Tazmanians with a 51-42 win in their other weekend match to maintain their top placing in the men’s Eastern Conference League.

Jeremy Nsiku got 31 points for the campus side while Washington Mwangi notched 17 for Tazmanians.

Western Conference top team Strathmore University walloped Deaf Kings 48-23.

Feba had 19 from Joseph Irungu and 17 from Sydney Chasimba as they dismissed Old Pirates 62-49.
