Wenger now turns on supporters but risks backlash today at the Emirates

Arsene Wenger has blamed the Arsenal supporters for his side failing to win the Premier League this season in an amazing blast at fans.

Wenger has finally cracked under the weight of mounting pressure over his job by turning on his own supporters.

He has accused them of contributing to the Gunners falling behind Leicester and Tottenham in the title race because they created such a bad atmosphere at home.

Now he risks a cauldron of hate at The Emirates today with three fed up supporter’s groups planning to combine to stage a mass demonstration.

“We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played at home in a very difficult climate.

“We have to realise that, away from home, we are championship winners. At home, against the smaller teams, we lost the league.

“This club does have special values though and one I’ve experienced over the years is to stick together and support the team. There’s no success without that,” Wenger said.

The claim his team are winners away falls down under scrutiny, with the Gunners only having the third best record on their travels — behind Leicester and Spurs.

Wenger also laid into pundits and supporters for attacking his methods, singling out controversial TV celebrity Piers Morgan for special criticism.

He claimed Gunners supporters should not be too disappointed even though the club has blown their best ever chance to end the 12-year wait for a Premier League win.

“Some people question this team’s character but they have character and attitude and some people who question them have less character than this team has,” he added. Arsenal host Norwich today from 7:30 pm. — Agencies
