UoN showcases power of innovation through robotic arm

Nairobi, Kenya: The first ever Nairobi Innovation Week event that took place at the University of Nairobi last month that gave a platform for individuals to bring forward different Innovations.

Among them was a robotic arm, controlled using a wirelessly connected joystick. Both the control and joystick boards were implemented using the modern ARM-based Freescale micro-controllers. FreeRTOS was used to create a real-time firmware running in both boards. The robotic arm is a basic KIT for learning robotics.

This is a great step in demonstrating the level of preparedness of graduates to work in a problem-solving environment armed with relevant skills and able to utilize modern embedded systems development tool-sets to come up with customised solutions for specific problems.

Many visitors thronged the booth to learn more about these innovations. Attendance by stakeholders in different fields made is possible for participants to make key contacts to continue with the discussions started at the exhibitions and help forge relationships to further the level of implementation of some of these technologies.
