JKUAT to open Eldoret campus next year

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is set to open a new campus in Eldoret town starting January 2015.

The Campus to be located at Sirgoi House within the central business district is expected to attract many students who for past years, have had to travel long distances to access the University's programmes in neighbouring towns.

The programmes will be offered at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

According to the Campus Director, Dr Joel Cheruiyot Chelule, plans are also under-way to start a degree in Financial Engineering by May 2015 and later to introduce agriculture related courses given the region is considered the country's bread basket.

"The decision to open this campus is in response to demand for JKUAT's quality programmes by parents and students who felt the courses could not easily be accessed," the director said.

Some of the programmes to be offered at the new campus include: County Governance, Purchasing and Supplies Management, Human Resources Management, Development Studies, Procurement and Logistics, Business and Office Management, Public Administration and Leadership related courses.

The University has a student population of 37,000 scattered in campuses and centres within and outside Kenya.

The main campus is in Juja, some 36km North East of Nairobi, and has other campuses in Karen, Westlands and Kigali (Rwanda). It has centres in Arusha, Kisii, Kitale, Mombasa, Nairobi (CBD) and Nakuru.

Its constituent colleges include: Taita Taveta University College, Murang'a University College, Kirinyaga University College and Co-operative University College.
