Kibra boy in Russia singing for Vladmir Putin!

Heads Up

Beni Maniaci

Heads Up correspondents in Moscow inform us that a boy from Kibera may have caught the Russian president’s attention.

Beni Maniaci is part of Architects music duo together with King from Zimbambwe.

Their song, Go Hard Like Vladmir Putin has been viewed over a million times on YouTube.

So popular is the song that Russians are now uploading their own versions on social media.

Beni moved to Moscow in early 2000 to study medicine in Volgograd. After finishing school, the two settled in Moscow to “build foundations and make connections.”

There have been concerns in the past about how African immigrants have been received in the country, with groups like the MPC Task Force Against Racism reporting that although racial violence has decreased, it’s still a part of everyday life.

But Beni claims that’s a thing of the past and Vladimir Putin is a role model who is hardworking and diligent.

So has Putin heard the song and what does he think?

“I think so. I think he would work out to it when he goes to the gym. I’m sure he’s heard it. He and his guys are savvy and keep their ears to the ground. They want to know what’s going on. He doesn’t use the internet, or so I’ve heard, but he has (Prime Minister Dmitry) Medvedev, who does. Maybe he gave it to Putin to listen to!” Beni told Heads Up.

Responding to our question whether he planned to come back home, he said: “I have plans to come back to Kenya, shoot a video in Kibra and eat sukuma wiki and tasty samosas sold by the roadside, as well as hop onto a matatu.”
