THE BRO CODE

They say boys will always be boys and in this male world, there is an unwritten code on how boys should behave or treat each other. Here are some of the code rules:

1. GIRLFRIENDS COME SECOND The argument behind it is that before you met the girlfriend you are with, your boys were already there with you. There rule is that girlfriends should not change the way you treat your ‘brothers’, after all, girlfriends come and go. You may have this hot-looking girl but in terms of priority, bros come first.

2. IT IS STUPID BUT STILL OK We all have that reputation to maintain but that doesn’t seem to matter when you’re with the guys. It is only when you are with your boys when visiting the strip joint is cool. Even when they know it is all wrong, guys will always want to break the rules when they are together as long as no one else knows. They will ditch their girlfriends and do a weekend trip out of town and cheat on them, and whatever happens is never to be discussed in any other forum.

3. WATCH MY BACK As they say, a good friend will bail you out of jail but a best friend will be right beside you in that jail cell. No matter the consequences, bros always got each other’s backs. It does not matter what ‘crime’ you have been caught in but a bro will always be that lawyer who bails you out or makes you look good. If your girlfriend busts you playing her with another chic, the easiest thing to do is claim that she is actually your friend’s chic and would your girlfriend call him to confirm, the guy will take the blame. In fact, if by some mistake the other girl forgot her shoes in your car and your girlfriend happens to spot them, the easiest thing to say will be; “How comes Joseph and his girlfriend left shoes in our car.”

4. BROS DON’T HUG EACH OTHER No matter how emotional you get, don’t hug. Shake on it, pound on it or fist pump or whatever it is you need to do. Look for another emotional outlet and that way the awkwardness will be avoided.

5. NEVER TELL A BRO YOU LOVE HIM The three letter combo can be the sweetest thing to land on your ear, so long as it is not coming from a deep hoarse- voiced man. Guys don’t know how to respond to that and in the process it makes it weird for both of you. You know your boys will ride and die for you though they never say it. It is a boy thing to appreciate from deep inside the heart and...move on!

6. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF SHE CARES ABOUT SPORTS Nothing shouts ‘not man enough’ like a clueless guy on matters sports. I mean, what else do guys talk about apart from money, women and sports. Your girlfriend might be clueless why you always hit the club to watch football with your boys while you could have still done the same at home...but it is just a guy thing.

7. DON’T DATE YOUR BRO’S EX-GIRLFRIEND Women have always been an issue of contention between bros. That’s why you should never look interested with your bro’s girlfriend. It is always a No-No that you should imagine dating your friend’s girlfriend leave alone looking at her suggestively.

8. WINGMAN; ALWAYS COME THROUGH You get caught up in a situation where your side kick shows up in this ceremony where you are with your girlfriend and it is then when a bro comes in handy, trying to cover up for his boy. Like a man, you take the mantle and employ every destructive move to keep things looking calm. Your bro’s girlfriend should never get him off guard if you are in a position to help out.

9. NEVER DISCUSS SEX ABOUT YOUR GIRLFRIEND Men are visual creatures and they like painting a picture of their conquests. One, a man should never be caught picturing another man naked. Because of all that respect, at no time should a man discuss how he enjoys his moments with his girlfriend unless she is just another pleasure symbol.

10. BROS DON’T COCK-BLOCK Cock-blocking is a term used to describe how a guy would maliciously deny you the chance to have your moment with a girl.
