Stolen goods were not in our custody, KeNHA says

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has said goods worth millions of shillings it had procured on behalf of another Government department were not stolen under its custody.

It says it procured the goods for use by the mechanical department of the ministry of transport and infrastructure.

"The goods were delivered to the mechanical department and were duly received at the ministry," Corporate Affairs manager Charles Njogu said.

"The goods were stolen while under the custody and care of the Mechanical department," Mr Njogu said.

He said the goods were procured on behalf of the Northern Corridor Transport Improvement Project. In his latest report, the Auditor General said taxpayers could have lost millions of shillings at the Mechanical and Transport Fund to questionable transactions.
