President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured of the Jubilee Government’s determination to ensure all genuine land owners get title deeds.

He said title deeds will no longer be a campaign tool to be used for political mileage during the electioneering period.

The President spoke at Kiirua trading centre in Buuri sub-county where he issued title deeds to residents.

President Kenyatta said the Government will issue 800,000 title deeds to land owners in Meru County in the next two years.

“Some land owners in Meru and some other parts of the country have waited for title deeds for their land since 1961. Some have died in the long wait, leaving their children to inherit the sorry state of affairs. We are changing that scenario now,” he said.

He said the national and county governments will work together in resolving land problems across the country.

The President, who is in Meru County on a two-day inspection tour of development projects and to launch new ones, said the Jubilee Government will support upgrading of major towns in the country to attract investors and create jobs for the youth.

He directed contractors of all on-going and new development projects in the country to engage local labour to benefit unemployed youth in the counties.

President Kenyatta said the national Government respects the Constitution and is working with county governments to spread development at the grassroots level.

“Kenyans passed the Constitution in 2010 and as the national Government, we endeavor to take services closer to Kenyans,” he said.

President Kenyatta – who made various stop-overs to acknowledge greetings from mammoth crowds – also opened a Huduma centre in Meru where residents will receive all Government services under one roof.

The President was accompanied by all the 13 Meru Members of Parliament and other leaders from across the country.

Deputy President William Ruto, who accompanied the President, said the ongoing implementation of development projects is in line with the Jubilee transformative manifesto.

Meru Governor Peter Munya said his county’s administration was happy with projects initiated by the national Government, adding that the two levels of government will work closely to deliver on quality service to Kenyans.

Meru senator Kiraitu Murungi said Meru people will continue to work with the Jubilee Government in development and other matters of national importance.
