A three-year-old boy died in a Nairobi hospital five days after he was allegedly assaulted by his stepfather.

Master Emanuel Muriithi succumbed to his injuries at the Nairobi West Hospital on Wednesday following the assault incident that happened in Gatina area, Kawangware home on March 16.

Police say the stepfather identified as Anthony Kariuki Kamau, 26 was arrested and would be charged in court with various offences.

The child’s mother had arrived home late from work on March 16 and was informed of the assault. The child had apparently sustained serious injuries which forced her to rush him to Avenue Nursing Home in Parklands the following day.

Witnesses said the child was bleeding from the head and back.

Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said the boy was later transferred to Nairobi West Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

“He had been in ICU for that period before he succumbed. We have arrested the said assailant and would face various charges including murder,” said Koome.

Elsewhere, police are looking for a driver who stabbed a pedestrian to death in an argument in a traffic jam in Roysambu area, Nairobi Wednesday evening.

Police say the two had argued in a traffic jam before the driver jumped out of his car and stabbed the deceased in the chest killing him before driving off. A hunt on the man is ongoing.
