Rally ace Chandu talks up his steady rise

Kisumu driver Chandrakhant Chhabhadia Devji Chandu after receiving his prize for winning the S Class during Kisumu KCB RAlly.

When Chandrakant Devji Chabhadhia started participating in the rally driving four years ago, it was meant for fun and to pass time.

A year went by and he emerged the winner during the Formula Club Series (FCS) Kisumu Rally staged at Kibos Sugar Yard in Chemase on August 3 last year.

Since then, the rally driver has not looked back and now competes in S Class Category where he has also finished in a respectable positions in the main rally.

“Rallying is a great sport. When I started participating it was just for fun, but I later realised that driving in a motorsport and competing in national events is enjoyable,” said Chandu who is currently leading S Class standings with 78 points.

Chandu is also placed third in Division Three category behind Natasha Tundo (125), the daughter of Frank Tundo followed by Osman Abdala on 87 points.

After the Eldoret Rally, the Kisumu-based driver is placed position 23 in the main rally.

Chandrakant said he thanks God for his performance and attributed his great outing to the support from the fans and sponsor Shajanand Holdings and Service Crew.

He added: “I’m happy that since I started participating in the sport, I have had no major problems with my car except during the Kisumu Rally in April in which the engine was damaged by water. I had to change the it in order to bring back the car to form.”

And to thank God for the performance that he has had thus far, Chandu has built a church (Mumias SDA Church), which is 75% complete.

“I just want to thank God by building the SDA Church in Mumias. The construction is complete, with just the finishing remaining,” said Chandu.

The Rally Driver said that he was looking up to the forthcoming Kajiado (Kitengela Rally), in which he has promised to stage another great outing in order to earn more points.

Chandu, as he is popularly known by his fans advises parents to allow children participate in the sport.
