Dettol aims to educate millions across 19 countries on Global Handwashing Day

A global digital campaign focused on spreading awareness around handwashing habits; Pledges to educate a child About Healthy Handwashing Habits for every share

Nairobi Kenya, 15th October 2016: Considered as the gold standard in germ protection, Dettol has been committed towards spreading awareness around hand hygiene amongst children across the globe.

As a part of the Global Handwashing Day celebrations, Dettol has launched a global campaign which aims to reach out to millions of people across 19 countries and educate them about importance of handwashing. Led by digital, the campaign emphasises on creating a big impact of saving lives by taking small steps like inculcating good handwashing habits.

Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an easy, effective, and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

On a local level, Dettol East Africa has implemented the Healthy Hands Program. Since August 2010, the program has taught over 3 million children why, when and how to wash their hands in over 3,500 schools. Our target is to reach 4 million by the end of 2016.

Talking about the Dettol Global Handwash Fun Day at the SOS Children’s Village in Buruburu, Sachin Varma, Country Manager RB East Africa said, “We believe that it’s important to inculcate healthy behaviour changes at an early age. A simple act of hand wash with soap prevents a lot of illness and needless deaths, especially in developing country like Kenya.

Global Handwashing Day gives us the opportunity to create an awareness platform, where consumers can be educated and at the same time, a small step from them helps in making a big difference towards this endeavour.” He further added, “At Dettol, we pledge to make lives of millions of people healthier and happier by improving their hygiene habits. We sincerely believe that this campaign will help us in making a positive impact on people’s attitude towards their hygiene habits.”
