RECORD ENTRY FOR STANDARD CLASSIC: Muiga beat 231 golfers to bag top prize at Thika Sports Club

Resident golfer Joyce Muiga was in stunning form on both nines as she blew through the massive field of 231 golfers to win the Standard County Golf Classic tournament played at  the par 72, Thika sports club over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 22, Muiga combined 18 and 26 stableford points respectively on both nines for a compact score of 44 to triumph.

The soft spoken Muiga said: “I don’t know what to say, after four years of playing golf; today after I woke up I asked God to reward me with a win. And my husband dismissed me when I informed him that I was off to the course. With this win as I go back home, he will be welcoming a winner. In short I enjoyed my round today,” an overwhelmed Muiga said in her winner’s speech.

Dr C Waihenya posted 43 (20+23) stableford points to take the Men winner prize. The Men runners-up prize went to John Mureithi, who posted 40 (19+21) stableford points .

The third prize went to S Njuguna on an identical score of 40(20+20) stableford points.

Eunice Mwangi bagged the Lady winner prize on a score of 39 (20+19) stableford points as Linda Kinyua settled for the Lady winner third on a score of 37 (18+19) stableford points.

Kenya defence forces prize went to Captain Mitei on 34 (20+14) stableford points. Col. Githaiga won KDF second prize on 33 (16+17) stableford points with Col P Karani closing the uniformed men’s medal hunt on a score of 33 (17+16) stableford points.

Erick Kwambai of Golf Park won the Guest prize on a score of 41 (23+18) stableford points with Angelas Maina taking Guest second prize on 37 (20+17) stableford points.

The Gross prize went to Simon Ndungu on 31(15+16) stableford points while Timothy Mararo won the Junior prize on a score of 29 (16+13) stableford points.

Mose Sammy won the Staff prize on a score of 34 (16+18) stableford points, as Norris Kibe and T Njehia took the 1st and 2nd Nines prizes on 22 and 21 stableford points respectively.

Suave Peter Mwangi was the Longest drive winner men while Betty Ndenderu took the Longest drive ladies prize.

Hanif Kurji won Men Nearest to the Pin prize with Leah Waweru taking Nearest to the Pin prize in the ladies category.

Robert Kinisu was awarded for his troubles on the course with Best Effort/Piga Mingi prize after managing 16 (13+3) stableford points.
