Power supply in Kenya restored, eight hours later

Kenya: Electricity supply in the entire country has been restored, hours after a nationwide blackout that took effect Saturday 5.30am.

"Today at 5.34am we experienced a technical hitch on the Olkaria Nairobi 220 KV line, which resulted in a national outage. Our technical team was deployed to normalise supply and we are glad to note that as at 2pm, power was fully restored across the country," said Kenya Power in a statement.

In Nairobi, power was restored after 8 hours with some other parts having regained power hours earlier.

“Power supply has been restored to Central Business District, other parts of Nairobi and the outskirts, Coast Region in addition to areas restored earlier," said Kenya Power in a statement at 1.50pm Saturday.

Other parts where power had been restored much earlier include North and Central Rift, West Kenya, South Nyanza, and Mt Kenya regions.
