Nineteen students from Kiambogo High school in Naivasha have been arrested after the institution's dormitory was torched on Monday night.

Also arrested was a trader who allegedly sold petrol to the students.

According to one of the students, the fire started at around 9pm when they were leaving classes after their evening studies.

"The fire started from a nearby wooden dormitory, before spreading to the main dormitory. It  burnt down everything, including our property," said the student.

A local leader, Daniel Kibunja, said poor roads made it hard for a fire-fighting engine to access the school.

"This trend is worrying and we are asking the necessary arms of the Government to address this crisis, which is getting out of hand by the day," he said.

Area MCA Samuel Waithuki challenged the Education ministry and other payers to call for an urgent meeting to address the current crisis.

"We are deeply perturbed by this fire incident as this area is very poor and the torching of the dormitory marks the worst moment for us," he said.
