Kidero praises Nairobi-Japan relationship

NAIROBI, KENYA: Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has hailed the cordial relationship between his county and Japan.

He said Japan has helped Nairobi County come up with a master plan which is set to transform the city into a world-class city.

The Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN) 2014-2030 was developed through a consultative process that incorporated views from the private and public sectors, academia, political leadership and the general public.

“The process begun in 2012 and was completed in 2014. Most recently the Japanese Government donated four (4) fire engines; which include three fire engines with water tanks and one chemical fire engine that are currently awaiting clearance at the Mombasa port. The Government of Japan will also provide technical training for handling the engines," said Kidero.
“The government of Japan will also assist Nairobi City once it is ready for the introduction of  the Fukuoka method of waste disposal management that is already in application in Denmark and Malaysia,” he added.

There are plans to convert the Dandora dumpsite into a fully-fledged processing area with final disposal at Ruai, with Technical assistance from the Japanese government.

Dr Kidero explained that the technology to be used will not create danger to aeroplanes and bird strikes will be completely minimized. Says the Governor "This technology will also put in place measures to curb toxic gas emission and create massive employment for youth in Dandora and Ruai areas."

Japan Ambassador to Kenya H.E Toshitsugu Uesawa who paid Nairobi City County Governor Dr Evans Kidero a courtesy call at his City Hall office on Wednesday said Nairobi City County Government and Japan relationship is growing from strength to strength.
