Aden Duale’s bodyguard shot by gunmen and robbed of his gun in Eastleigh, Nairobi

NAIROBI: One of the bodyguards attached to leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale was Monday evening shot and wounded before being robbed of his gun in an attack within Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The officer was shot in the leg by gunmen who ambushed him along General Waruinge Road at about 6pm before they grabbed his pistol. Police said the gang escaped towards Kiwanja slums near Moi Air Base.

Duale confirmed the attack and said the bodyguard Abdi Maalim was stable and out of danger and was grazed by a bullet in the leg.

Maalim had been sent to the area when he was attacked.

The attack prompted a major police operation in hunt for the gunmen until late. Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said the hunt on the gang would continue. It came at a time when the city is holding a UN meeting.
