Millions being lost as revenue system crashes

NAKURU county government could be losing millions of shillings after an electronic revenue collection system failed.

Officials have now reverted to collecting revenue manually even as stakeholders expressed concerns over the credibility of the machines.

A senior county employee who declined to be named said the system collapsed a few weeks ago and efforts to repair it have been fruitless.

“The system has crashed. Experts have been working on it without much success. Naivasha Professionals Association CEO Absolom Mukhusi said IT experts in the sub-county had discredited the system, but the county government went ahead to roll it out. “Contrary to the expectations, the system has been a failure,” he said.
