Mr Mwakanongo was Thursday grilled by the Nairobi County Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and put to task to explain how millions of shillings were transferred from the county public funds account to another account without his approval. The executive said he only caught wind of the situation after a red flag was raised by the auditor general who brought it to his attention.

“This is a situation where the administrator of the County Assembly Public fund, who is the county clerk, made withdrawals without my consent because I am not involved in the day-to-day running of the fund,” said Mwakanongo. PAC chairman Robert Mbatia said Sh50 million had been irregularly withdrawn from Family bank in the 2013-14 financial year.
