West Pokot in a deal with Tullow to explore oil

West Pokot County has entered an agreement with Tullow Oil to explore oil in the region, area governor has disclosed.

In an interview, Governor Simon Kachapin said they held talks with the company's top management last week and agreed to carry out prospects on oil in the region.
"We have given the company go ahead to carry out prospects on oil exploration in the County in areas along Turkwel region belt," he said.
Kachapin assured residents that the company will commence the work soon and asked residents to cooperate with the County Government and the company.
He however pointed out that the activities that will be conducted by Tullow are in anticipation of discovery since striking oil was not guaranteed.
"We suspect areas along the Turkwel belt to be having oil prospects since the region borders Turkana’s Ngamia 1 where the company discovered oil," he said.
Kachapin assured investors that the region was safe after West Pokot and Turkana Counties and national government cooperated to end cattle rustling menace.
The region was insecure in the past years due to cattle rustling and most companies which were operating in the region were forced to close down their operations in the region.
