Kenya National Rugby Sevens player Collins Injera is sitting on top of the world, and proudly so. Mr Injera, the team vice-captain knocked Gomez Santiago of Argentina off the top spot with 235 tries at the just concluded IRB Rugby Sevens tour in London. Mr Santiago held the record for seven years. That success is the result of hard work, discipline and determination that must be celebrated by all Kenyans. Through their own individual effort and industry, our athletes and sportsmen are making history.
Last month, the Shujaas won the Rugby Sevens cup during the Singapore circuit, the first time in history. This glorious victory followed Harambee Starlets' crowning moments when they qualified for the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon. Before them, in 2015 Kenya came top of the overall medal table at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing for the first time, with seven gold medals, six silver and three bronze medals, with Jamaica and the US in second and third place respectively.
