President Uhuru starts three-day tour of North Eastern Kenya today

President Uhuru Kenyatta will make a three-day visit to North Eastern region starting today.

During his tour, the President will meet leaders in the area, and review and support the North Eastern development agenda.

The President begins his tour of the region in Mandera County where he will launch, inspect and commission roads, an airport, as well as address public gatherings.

On Friday, President Kenyatta will tour Wajir County where he will launch several development projects.

The President will commission a medical training college as well as a hospital.

He will review the programme of the roll out of the Digital Literacy Programme popularly known as the laptop project.

President Kenyatta will end his North Eastern tour in Garissa County on Saturday where he will launch and commission projects.

He will also review the progress of key water projects in the area as well as visit Garissa University College.

And President Kenyatta yesterday met 12 Ukambani MPs for talks during which it was agreed he will tour the region next month.

The meeting yesterday with the lawmakers from Lower Eastern led by Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu at State House, Nairobi, discussed progress of Jubilee initiated development projects.

According to a statement released by State House, the president’s tour from June 10 to 13 will take him to Machakos, Kitui and Makueni.

The President's visit will start on June 10 in Machakos. On June 11 and 12, he will be in Kitui and June 13 in Makueni.

The Kitui itinerary will include an Interdenominational church service.

Uhuru had earlier been scheduled to visit the Eastern region this weekend after an earlier meeting with the leaders led by Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

The leaders acknowledged the circumstances that led to the postponement of the visit but were delighted that they had more time to prepare.

A statement released by State House yesterday said the President looks forward to this visit, which will allow him to meet local leaders and interact with area residents.
