Local leaders have expressed concern over rising insecurity in Kitengela town.

The leaders said increasing insecurity might affect investor confidence in the fast growing town.

Kitengela Oloosirkon MCA Daniel Kanchori urged to police to crackdown on crime.

“We cannot be talking about attacks, killings, robbery and loss of property every day. Let the security issue be a priority in the area. Insecurity puts us in a delicate balance,” he said.

Seven-man gang

This came a few hours after a seven-man gang raided an estate and made away with property worth millions of shillings.

The thugs spent more than one hour terrorising residents before police were alerted.

Fasal Jumea (right) said one of the criminals, who had masked his face, ransacked his house, while those who had pistols kept vigil.

“We have lost all our jewelry and mobile phones to these criminals. Its fortunate that they did not open fire,” said Mr Jumea.

Woman Representative Mary Seneta condemned the incident and urged the Government to help construct more police stations in the area.

“I’m appealing to our government through the interior Security Ministry to intervene in this matter before we lose more people,” said Ms Seneta.

She asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to bolster police numbers in the area and equip them with “proper communication gadgets”.

Violent robberies

“We are shocked by the spate of violent robberies at Muigai, Milimani and New Valley. The group of young men is well-organised and does not seem to be in a hurry,” she added.

Residents now want the local police machinery overhauled and accused officers of colluding with criminals.

Last week a gang of armed thugs shot and killed a police officer during a day light robbery in the town.

The robbers also shot and injured a shoe shiner.
