Some police officers lack skills and competence to deal with contemporary security demands. Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said the situation has negatively affected the overall image of the police.

Mr Boinnet said the the ever-changing security environment and increasing complexity of crime called for the need to re-examine the competencies of police officers.

He said he formed a curriculum review committee last year to explore ways of aligning police training in the country to the current policing requirements.

The team has since come up with a needs-assessment report.
