In December 2014, Nashon Ndeta bade his family farewell and left in search of greener pastures at Kakamega town.

A year and some months later, he is yet to return and his family in Khwisero has not heard from him.

“He left me with his two children saying he was going to seek employment and only gave me Sh1,000 to cater for them. He promised to send more money for his children’s upkeep, but that did not happen” his father John Makotsi says.

Makotsi says they have been to police stations in Kakamega, prison, hospitals looking for their son but nothing has borne fruit. They have also been to their relatives homes, thinking that perhaps he went to visit, but this too has been fruitless.

Among his peers, they get conflicting information about his whereabouts with the last piece of information being that Ndeta had been spotted in Eldoret.

“Last year, one of his friends told us they saw him in Eldoret, but we do not know the exact place and have no idea where to start looking for him,” Makotsi says.

As though things were not already difficult for the elderly couple, Ndeta’s wife took off, after it became apparent he was not coming back, leaving behind her four and three-year-old children.

“My daughter-in-law abandoned her children and last we heard, she had remarried and now lives in Kisumu. We are now solely responsible for the two children, catering for their daily needs and education. It has not been easy,” Makotsi says.

He, however, believes that his son is still alive and will one day come back home to reunite with his family. He says his grandchildren have particularly been affected by their parents absence and are craving parental attention.

“I have tried my level best to look for him but it has been in vain. I know he is out there and I want him to come back home. His children really miss him,” Makotsi says.

Ndeta was working as a motor cycle operator and had the habit of disappearing for months but he would always come back home.

“This is not the first time he has been away. He was in the habit of leaving home to seek employment but he would always come back home.

However, this is the first time he has been away for so long without communicating with us or coming back to check on his family,” Makotsi said.
