Fresh controversy as court stops new Knut officials from taking office

A court has restrained the newly elected Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) officials in Maragua from assuming office. The move has further fuelled controversies that have rocked the union in the region.

Former branch Executive Secretary Amos Murigi and Charles Kamande went to court to restrain the Registrar of Trade Unions from registering the new officials led by John Njata, who was elected as the branch secretary after flooring Mr Murigi.

Justice Hellen Wasilwa of Nairobi’s Employment and Labour Relations Court issued the orders restraining the team from assuming office.

The two petitioners claimed one of the officials was elected to the position after the Teachers Service Commission transferred him to a school in Gatanga, which is served by the Thika Knut branch in Kiambu.
