Yatta dam project to be revived

The stalled multi-billion-shilling Yatta Dam will soon be revived following the intervention of the National Land Commission (NLC).

The dam's construction stalled after a conflict emerged between the Government and the land owners.

Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi said NLC officials would visit the area in the next two weeks to resolve the dispute.

The project expected to cost over Sh2 billion stalled two years ago after a land owner moved to court and blocked its progress.

Speaking during the opening of an AP post at the Kyasioni market, Mr Mwangangi said the lands commission had agreed to to handle the matter and ensure the project takes off immediately.

"The Government cannot allow the residents to lose such a big project aimed at resolving water shortage in Yatta because of an individual," he said.

The Government has sub-contracted three companies to assist in the completion of the Yatta water canal.

"The three companies would boost the existing two companies in ensuring the completion deadline is achieved," he said.
