Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti has warned candidates in the forthcoming ODM county elections against rigging.

Mr Awiti said some of the candidates, whom he did not name, were boasting that they had prepared lists of party officials even before the elections.

"Party supporters will not accept any attempt to present lists of officials picked from the backstreets before the elections," said the governor.

Speaking at Kachieng' SDA Church in Kasipul during a funds drive for the church, Awiti told those seeking the party positions to give room for delegates to choose leaders of their choice.

"We don't want sideshows. We don't want issues that will lead to violence. Let the people pick the best candidate," he said.

County party elections will be held on November 29.

Homa Bay Town MP Opondo Kaluma and Woman Representative Gladys Wanga are gunning for the county chairmanship.

Speaking on Saturday, Awiti said that although he was not contesting for any seat and had not taken sides, he would support a candidate picked by the delegates and endorsed by party supporters.
