The Amani National Congress (ANC) now wants institutions mandated to fight graft strengthened in order to deal with the vice.

While admitting that corruption was at a high level in the country, the party said time is ripe to give the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) more powers to fight graft.

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi pointed out counties where graft was real, adding that those found guilty ought to be jailed.

"This trend is not the best for us and we need to look at the EACC and strengthen it to be able to deal with the problem in totality," he advised.

Mr Mudavadi was speaking to the Press after visiting Naivasha residents where he popularised his new party.

He said counties were slowly spreading ethnic hatred among Kenyans, noting the trend was not the best for the country.

Mudavadi said the move to have employees of one ethnic community in county administrations was wrong.

"The Constitution is very clear on the 30 per cent rule on employment in the counties and this is being violated," he said.

On hate speech, the former vice president said the party had made its stance known and those found should take individual responsibility.

Mudavadi added it was wrong for those propagating hate speech to hide behind their communities and called on the Government to deal with the cases firmly.

"Most of us forget easily and it seems we don't remember where we have come from. We should know that Kenyans do not want divisions but want to live in harmony," he said.
