Elections: Uproar as FKF releases list of clubs

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has finally released the names of clubs eligible to take part in this year’s elections, but the move elicited complains from various quarters.

A total of 1286 clubs from 13 branches have been submitted to vote while the other seven will be published today.

The first to complain about the list was Willy Mkubwa, the chairman of the Kilifi sub-branch.
Mkubwa claimed they had submitted a list of 107 clubs to the South Coast branch for onward transmission to the national office but only 18 have been approved to vote.

“We took our list to the branch and it had 107 clubs. We are surprised that only 18 clubs have been cleared. I want to warn the national office that should the list stand, we will go to court and challenge the elections,” he said.

Mkubwa asked the national office not to accept any list that has not been signed by the four sub branch officials.

“Any list that does not have the signature of the chairman, secretary and treasurer is fake and should be treated as such,” he added.

In North Western branch, the chairman Moses Kubai said he was surprised that his branch has 179 clubs yet the list they had agreed on did not have more than 122 clubs.

Kubai accused outgoing secretary Peter Makali of inflating the list. “The list we agreed on had 122 clubs but we have been informed that 179 have been cleared. We are wondering where the extra clubs have come from,” he said.

But Makali denied the accusations and challenged Kubai to call a meeting and discuss the matter if indeed this is true. “I am not aware of any extra clubs on our list. I sent what we agreed on to the national office and if there are any issues, we should discuss it as an executive,” he added.

Makali, however, could not say how many clubs they had agreed on and even admitted that he sent the list to Nairobi through a third party.
Jacob Kabanze who will be contesting for the executive committee post for Nairobi claimed that in some branches, the clubs which voted in 2011 have been included even without any vetting.

FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya absolved the federation from blame insisting that the list they published came from branches.

“We did not add or remove any clubs. What we have came from the branches. They will be given three days to rectify,” he said.
