Newly recruited teachers in Machakos turned away

Teacher recruits who were issued with appointment letters on Friday last week Monday got a rude shock when they went to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) offices in Machakos County for job confirmation only to be told to go home.

The recruits had been issued with employment letters indicating the schools they were supposed to report to Monday. They were to be issued with casualty letters by the headteachers of the particular schools, and then to return the letters to the TSC offices for confirmation.

But all hell broke loose after receiving the casualty letters. Upon returning the letters to the TSC offices, they were turned away.

At the TSC offices, they were only advised to leave the documents at the office and go home to await word from the director.

Some of the recruits said they had come from far and had spent a lot of money, some of which was borrowed.

They accused the Government of double standards by wasting their time and resources saying that was not the kind of treatment they expected to get from a Government they had confidence in.

Machakos TSC Director Muturi Ireri said they had not received any clear communication from the headquarters over the fate of the recruits.
