KDF recruits nine Malindi youths

Nine youths from Malindi and Langobaya locations in Malindi Sub-County have been recruited to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) out of the 250 candidates who participated in the day-long exercise.

Colonel Joseph Kosgei, who oversaw the exercise on Tuesday, said the eight men and one woman were able to meet all the requirements that the military needed and would be informed of the next stage later.

Mr Kosgei said many candidates who turned up for the exercise were above the required age of 26 years and also did not come from any of the two locations as had been stipulated.

He said that a significant number were also disqualified as they were discovered to have kidney ailments.

Candidates’ profiles

During the recruitment exercise, journalists were denied permission to speak to the recruits in what the officers regarded as protecting the dignity and privacy of the candidates’ profiles. Kosgei observed that the high turnout of candidates could both be interpreted as an indication of more candidates willing to serve their country and also an indication of the high number of youths desperately looking for employment.

“I am happy that recruits and the population around were orderly and even those who did not qualify could be seen leaving the grounds satisfied,” he said.

The exercise continues Friday in Kaloleni and Rabai.
