Yes, we got Ex-terminated! Pulse team accept defeat but declare 'war' at next Paintball fury

Guns out at the pulse paintball fury

The ‘guns’ had been cocked and the two sides, the Pulse Ex-Terminators and the Samurais, took different sides as the referee issued firm instructions ahead of the battle.

These was the opening game in a 16-team adrenaline rush paintball competition, a day-long, fun shindig at the GP Karting grounds last Saturday. Of course, judging from the big interest it had generated across the showbiz divide, this was going to be the event of the weekend with teams that bore fierce names like The Drone, Downtown Gaza, The Trailers, Nairobary, Eastern Hurricane and X-Men making it sound like some action-filled scene from a thriller movie. However, this opening game meant war! How would the Pulse team let a defeat at their own battle where they have had several successful encounters?

It was a strong battalion consisting of the Pulse Editor Stevens Muendo, Smitta Smitten and Harry the Illustrator, the later posing as the decoy with hit men Austine and JT leading the assault under the blazing sun and on the muddy field. Now, if you are wondering what this paintball game is all about, well, it is all about ‘guns’ and plastic balls otherwise known as bullets. You aim and shoot at the opponent team members, claim the flag at the middle of the field and manoeuvre your way to your opponent’s end to claim a win.

Each loaded with 99 bullets, the five players from each side put on the charge and within five minutes, the Ex-Terminators had claimed the flag amidst cheers from the squad. However, the enemies waged a strong defence barrier at their end and for over six minutes, there was a stand-off with fierce fighting in what came to be labelled as the ‘Fight for Kismayo’. Even though disputably so, the game ended in a draw. There were casualties; sprained ankles and ripped boots and so on standby was the Sonko Rescue team ready to offer medical attention to all those who were caught in the ‘crossfire’.

This was the script with the other teams as ‘gunfire’ and fierce exchange between different sides went on all day. The DJ Pierra Team, which had enjoyed major support from celebrities, was humiliated in the quickest elimination battle that only lasted five of the possible fifteen minutes. From then on, it was clear that the Nairobary-SDE team was the team to beat. Startimes and the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), who also doubled as sponsors, lost their battles early too but there was no love lost between them and the EFC team.

There was no shortage of entertainment as DJ Pierra and new kid on the block Trevor B, who happens to be Vinnie Banton’s son, did fine mixes on the decks and hundreds filled the joint showcasing fashion and style in the latest urban trends. Security was provided by Captain Ventures who manned every corner of the premises. And as the overhanging, heavy dark cloud gave way to a downpour at 5.30pm, the final showdown was no doubt going to be a messy affair that the all determined Nairobary-SDE team snatched from the relentless Standard Group commercial team. The event that brings celebrities and fans together in a team building meet-and-greet exercise was the first of its kind and is among a series of entertainment events the Pulse team is putting together this year. “This is one event that has managed to bring the entertainment industry together. It is a noble idea, which is no doubt helping to grow the industry,” Jilo of Startimes, the company that awarded the winners, told Pulse.
