Kandie in Italy to woo tourists

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie is in Italy, to market the country at an international fete.

The CS visited the Kenyan stand at the Expo in Milan yesterday with Ruth Mwaniki, the Export Promotion Council CEO and Kenya‘s ambassador to Italy Josephine Gaita.

“Kenya remains the top tourist destination in Africa and a compelling region for trade and investment, we should market it to the world,” she said. “By showcasing all qualities that make Kenya the land of unlimited possibilities, we look forward to making EXPO 2015 a global success,” she added.

Ms Kandie said there is a thriving Italian community who have invested in the hospitality industry along the Kenyan coast, especially in Malindi town, but noted there is still room for more potential investors.

“Majority of Europeans have also witnessed the hospitality of Kenyans. We need to woo more of these because Kenya has a rich culture and more investment opportunities,” said the CS.

Over 20 million visitors are expected at the EXPO Milano 2015, while 150 countries from across the globe are participating.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, officially opened the expo with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by VIP event, which had a live televised address from his Holiness Pope Francis.
