MPs resolve to have laws translated into Kiswahili

All the country's laws will now be translated into Kiswahili, MPs have resolved. The lawmakers said the decision would boost awareness of law and legal rights among many Kenyans who do not understand English.

Taita Taveta MP Joyce Lay said with the approval, the National Council of Law Reporting will now have to "progressively translate the laws of Kenya into Kiswahili".

MPs said the use of Kiswahili in daily discourse would boost its status as an official language.
