Nakuru County steps up water rationing as drought bites

NAKURU: The county government has announced a water rationing programme following the prolonged drought that has affected 90 per cent of the region.

According to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, the county is faced by an acute shortage of water and we don't have an option but to introduce rationing.

The rationing, which will be carried out during the day, would continue until there is ample water.

He identified the hardest hit areas by water shortage as Kiamunyi, Molo, Naivasha, Gilgil, Subukia, Elburgon and Molo.

Speaking in Naivasha Tuesday, Mr Mbugua said the county has put in long-term measures to address the crisis.

The governor said they have already embarked on supplying water using tankers to schools and hospitals in parts of the county.
