MultiChoice (DStv) increases subscription fee

Nairobi, Kenya: Multichoice announces increase in annual subscription fee with effect from April 1, 2015 citing inflation, satellite lease cost, programming costs and efficiencies effected within the company.

Multichoice released their new subscription fee for the different bouquets as follows:

                Compact Plus     KES 5 550,00

                Compact              KES 3 250,00

                Family                   KES 1 890,00

                Access                  KES 930,00

                PVR Access Fee                KES 1 020,00

This comes in the wake of the forceful switch off of the the three media houses that own KTN, Citizen and NTV. The Government has ruled out any possibility of reopening analogue television broadcasting for 100 days as suggested by three media houses.
The analogue transmission was switched off in an acrimonious operation following a Supreme Court order that the digital migration should go on as planned.

The switch-off was effected despite a plea by Standard Group, Nation Media Group and Royal Media Services for more time to import their transmitters and set-top boxes being manufactured in the US. The move plunged majority of Kenyans into television blackout.
