Media fraternity mourns fallen scribe

Kisumu, Kenya: The Standard Media Group is mourning one of their own, a reporter who passed away at Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu.

Naftal Onyari Makori, 35, breathed his last at 2am on Wednesday following a protracted battle with liver disease.

Makori joined The Standard as a correspondent in July 2011 and was posted to Nyamira before being posted to the Kisumu bureau office on permanent terms in August last year.

He started ailing in September and was diagnosed with a liver problem. Some medication was prescribed and he went about his normal tasks until beginning of this month when his condition deteriorated and he was admitted for two weeks.

He was later discharged and accompanied his parents to their rural home in Keroka where he seemed to be recuperating and was in high spirits as evidenced by his last Facebook update on Saturday.

"I am out of hospital. God listens to prayers. Thank you all for spending time to whisper a prayer for me, a miracle can happen and I will be full of health".

ABLE WRITER

The late Makori leaves behind a widow, Rose Kerubo and three children.

Social media was abuzz with news of Makori's death as colleagues and friends used all kinds of adjectives to describe the departed scribe.

Standard Group Kisumu Bureau Chief Frank Otieno described Makori as an able writer and willing team player.

"We will miss his radiant smile and jokes that made us happy in our office. Our prayers go to his young family," he said.
