Police from Butere police station have arrested a man suspected to have raped an 18-year-old girl.

The Form Four girl was reportedly going to school at 5.30am when the incident happened.

"I was heading to school when the man stopped me but I refused and he started chasing me. He ran after me, threw me to the ground and then raped me," the girl recalled.

Residents of Butunyi village responded to her cries, but the man managed to escape.

The girl said the man had also made advances the previous day and insulted her when she ignored him.

Her uncle, Jared Ambunya, reported the matter to Butere police station and took his niece to Butere sub-County Hospital where a medical report revealed she had been raped.

"I was preparing to go to work when my brother came to my house and told me that my niece had been attacked," said Mr Ambunya.

He accused the authorities of taking too long to arrest the suspect.
