Kiambu leaders back William Kabogo amid calls to dissolve county

MP Ann Nyokabi and some Members of County Assembly (MCAs) of Kiambu have come out to defend Governor William Kabogo's leadership.

The leaders called on those opposed to Kabogo's leadership to stop bickering and wait until his term ends in 2017 to see if he will have delivered his promises to the constituents.

Speaking last week on Friday in Kikuyu, Ms Nyokabi said it is unfortunate that leadership wrangles are happening in President Uhuru Kenyatta's backyard.

"Why are we ashaming the President in his own backyard. Let us stop fighting and concentrate on development," said Nyokabi.

Kabogo called on those calling for dissolution of the county to first undertake at least one development initiative in their home area and then ask for dissolution.

Last Sunday while attending a church service at St Joseph ACK Church in Riabai ward, gubernatorial race looser James Nyoro, now an adviser in the Office of the President on Agricultural, called on the President to dissolve the county, saying Kabogo had failed in his duties.

Some MCAs led by their Majority Leader Chege Wanjiru, Deputy Speaker Anthony Macharia and Chief Whip Charles Arahuka took issue with four MPs who led a protest in Thika last week over a directive to lock down Madaraka market.

The MCAs asked MPs Alice Ng'ang'a (Thika), Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), Mburu Kahangara (Lari) and Jude Njomo (Kiambu) to account for Constituency Development Funds before they can question how Kabogo is using county funds. Kabogo said the MPs are out to distract him so that he does not deliver by 2017 and by so doing, it will be easy to campaign against him. "Come 2017, I will win. They should not claim that we are not working," he said.
