Stop Kibos from invading Mumias, Oparanya told

Farmers allied to Mumias Sugar Company have petitioned the county government not to allow Kibos Sugar and Allied Industries to construct a weighbridge at Shikunga in Butere.

Speaking to journalists at the Mumias Cultural Centre, farmers under lobby group Bunge la Haki, Usawa na Maendeleo asked Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to stop the miller from executing its plan in the Mumias zone.

"Mumias is faced with shortage of cane supply caused by poaching. The county should not allow Kibos to invade this zone as it will kill the troubled company," said Bonface Manda, chair of the lobby group.

"Kibos is putting up the weighbridge in an area less than 22 kms from Mumias, which is against the provisions of the Sugar Act."
