More maize buying centres opened

More maize buying centres have been opened in counties across the North Rift region to reach out to more small scale farmers and ease congestion at existing National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots.

The buying centres, according to agricultural officials, are intended to mop up more produce that is still with farmers and also reduce exploitation of farmers by traders and middlemen.

Dr Cyril Cheruiyot, the Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee member for agriculture said the buying points will reduce crowding at the main NCPB depots.

"More buying centres have been opened in respective counties. New buying centres in Uasin Gishu county include Moiben, Kipsomba, Merewet and Tuiyo," Dr Cheruiyot told The Standard on Saturday on the telephone yesterday.
