Kenya Veterinary Board puts quacks on notice

The Kenya Veterinary Board has warned quacks practising as veterinary experts they will face the law.

The board said only graduates from training institutions, which are accredited to offer training in animal health, would be registered and allowed to engage in veterinary practice. Practitioners would also be required to undergo internship.

The new regulations were announced by the board during a ceremony to accredit Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to offer training in animal health.

The board’s mandate is to regulate veterinary training, business, practice and animal welfare services.

It further cautioned all unregistered animal health professionals, irrespective of the year of their graduation, to take note that those who have not been registered and their status updated with the board as at December 31, 2014, would be compelled to undergo internship.
