President Uhuru Kenyatta assents to four bills

Nairobi: President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday signed into law four Bills.

The Bills are the Physiotherapists Bill No. 25 of 2013, the Persons Deprived of Liberty Bill No. 30 of 2014, the Kenya Qualifications Framework Bill No. 29 of 2014 and the Law Society of Kenya Bill No. 25 of 2013.

The Persons Deprived of Liberty Act gives effect to articles 29(f) and 51 of the Constitution. It also outlines the rights of persons deprived of liberty and duties of persons in charge.

The law also establishes a consultative committee on persons deprived of liberty to resolve matters affecting them.

The Law Society of Kenya Act provides for the objects and conduct of the affairs of the society. It also establishes the Advocates Client Compensation Fund.

The society will also among other roles, formulate policies that promote the restructuring of the legal profession in the country to embrace the spirit, principles and values of the Constitution.

The Physiotherapists Act provides for the training, registration and licensing of Physiotherapists and will regulate their practice through the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya.

The Kenya Qualifications Framework Act provides for the establishment of standards for recognizing qualifications obtained in and outside the country

The Bills passed on diverse dates in December, in accordance with the provisions of article 109 of the Constitution, were presented for Presidential assent by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
