Former Molo MP ditches Opposition, joins Jubilee

Former Molo Member of Parliament John Njenga Mungai has ditched the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) for the Jubilee Coalition.

Mungai who represented Molo constituency for 20 years during the Kanu era made the announcement at a meeting attended by hundreds of The National Alliance (TNA) supporters in Elburgon town.

The former MP said he made the decision to jump ship after wide consultations with his supporters across the 11 constituencies in Nakuru County.

"I have decided to move out of ODM to TNA not because ethnic considerations, but because I strongly believe the Jubilee government is dedicated to enhancing development of this country," said Mungai.

Mungai, who unsuccessfully vied for the Nakuru County Senate seat on an ODM ticket was received by Nakuru County TNA Chairman Samuel Githaiga and several members of the county assembly affiliated to the party.

On security, Mungai accused some politicians of being sympathisers of those behind the terror attacks that have been experienced in various parts of the country.

He asked leaders to stop politicising security matters and instead work with the Government to ensure safety for all Kenyans.

Mungai said security apparatus have a duty to protect Kenyans and their property and they must prove that they are equal to the task.

Terror threats

"The terror threats currently facing the country require efforts by both Opposition and the Government to neutralise them and safeguard Kenyans and their property," he said.

He further called for stepping up of patrols along the Kenya-Somalia border and vetting of all national identity cards issued in recent years to arrest those holding them illegally as well as prosecute those who gave them out.

"The Government beef up security at all border points to ensure no foreigner enters the country illegally. That is the only way the war against terrorism can be won," the former MP said.
