The Instagram Commandments

"Show photos or it did not happen."

This is one of the most common modern day sayings that have contributed to the popularity of one of the fastest growing social media avenues, Instagram. As much as we have the freedom to post every event that takes place or everything that someone does, it is good to note that Instagram is a place to share the memorable moments of life, and is not an venue to be irritating or become a nuisance.

If you do not know how to handle yourself when it comes to Instagram, here are commandments to help you:

Thou shall not post a #ThrowBackThursday or #TBT post... from yesterday.

Thou shall not use a bunch of words to describe a picture. A picture is already worth a thousand words, so let it tell the story and keep your captions short and simple.

#Thou #shall #not #hashtag #everything #under #the #sun. #See #how #annoying #this #is?

Thou shall not bomb thy followers with dozens of selfies in five minutes.

Thou shall not use a hashtag that is in no way related to the posted pic or video.

Thou shall not lie about using #NoFilter. Be proud of your skin colour.

Thou shall not post mantras you do not live by.

Stop posting images with quotes like, 'Live every day as if it is your last' and 'Go out and live your life as if there was no tomorrow'. I highly doubt that if you knew this was your last day, you would be on Instagram.
