Man shot dead at graduation party

Police are looking for a gang that killed a 29-year-old man during a graduation party in Sunton estate, Kasarani.

Reports indicate that Dickson Mugendi, a father of one, was shot in the head by gunmen who raided the party at around 1am on Saturday.

Witnesses said the gang, of about five men, was armed with pistols which they wielded around as they demanded cash and valuables from those at the party.

"They ordered everyone to lie down and surrender their valuables. In the confusion, Mugendi hesitated a little prompting one of the gunmen to shoot him in the head," said Felix Kimotho, a witness.

Kimotho said everyone else was robbed.

INVITED GUEST

Mugendi was an invited guest at Arnold Muturi's house where friends and family gathered to celebrate the graduation of Phyllis Gakii who had graduated with a Bachelors degree in Sociology.

Gakii was among more than 7,000 graduands who had graduated from University of Nairobi hours earlier on Friday.

Kasarani OCPD Francis Sang said the gang had fled by the time they arrived at the scene of the incident.

"We received a report of the shooting and rushed there where we learnt that the man had been shot and killed by gunmen who had crashed into the meeting stealing cash and other valuables," he said.

The OCPD said investigations are ongoing adding that incidents of armed robbery are on rise ahead of the Christmas festivities.

He asked residents to heed gunmen's demands when confronted.
