Heavy rains, raging waters cause 2 deaths in Marakwet

Two people died after they were swept by raging waters in two separate incidents following the ongoing heavy rainfall pounding the region.

In Marakwet East, OCPD Emmanuel Rono said a 17-year-old man was swept away at Embobut River as he attempted to assess the river's depth to enable a vehicle pass after the bridge was destroyed.

The body was later retrieved and buried.

Marakwet West OCPD Mathews Mangira said a two-year-old child was swept by storm waters into river Arror at Ngorngoroi village.

The child was in the company of her older siblings herding their family's cattle when she wandered off into the swollen river.

Efforts to retrieve the body are ongoing with police joining locals in the search, which has gone on since Sunday evening.
