East African Community explains cancellation of infrstructure summit

The East African Community (EAC) has explained why the third Heads of State summit on infrastructure was called off indefinitely on Saturday evening.

In a joint statement, EAC Council of Ministers' chairperson Phyllis Kandie and secretary general Richard Sezibera said the region's leaders consulted and by consensus agreed to move the summit to a later date.

"The main reason was the inability to attend, due to unavoidable circumstances, of Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the incoming chair of the EAC Summit of Heads of States and Government," said the statement.

It added that President Uhuru Kenyatta, would hand over the chairmanship.
